Home phone users in South Tyneside look set to benefit from a new multimillion pound investment by BT in the area.
The telecoms giant is set to offer residents in around 18,000 South Tyneside council homes access to state-of-the-art technology and services.
Customer services, procurement and financial issues will also be improved for staff working at the council's South Tyneside Homes trust.
Commenting on the new five-year contract agreed between the organisation and BT, South Tyneside Homes chief executive Isobel Riley explained that the investment will help staff to improve the quality of their services.
BT South Tyneside chief executive Margie Burdis added that the new contract will build on existing relationships between the telecoms company and the housing association.
The news comes after it emerged that BT has cut the cost of home landline installation for standalone lines, which will save some customers nearly £100.
