Many residents in Sidcup have been deprived of their home phone services, after an attempted cable theft in the region.
One of the homeowners affected by the issue is retired newspaper compositor Bob Coote, who realised that the landline was dead at his Longmeadow Road home at lunchtime on January 31st, reports the News Shopper.
Mr Coote told the news provider: "I thought it was just me and my neighbour, but I went out and it was right down to Old Farm Avenue, by the station. All the phones are down."
He described the situation as pretty serious, adding that a number of elderly people in the area do not have mobile phones to use in the case of an emergency.
Cable theft has become a problem in other areas of the UK, with the Oxford Mail reporting last month that roughly 300 homes in Tackney and Middle Barton were left without their home phone services after thieves stole copper cabling.
