Hundreds of homes and businesses in Oxfordshire have been left without a functional landline, after thieves stole copper cabling in the area.
Around 300 homes in Tackley and Middle Barton have been deprived of home phone services since over a kilometre of the cabling was taken from BT's Steeple Aston exchange last week, reports the Oxford Mail.
BT spokeswoman Anna Steven told the newspaper: "Once the main cables are in, they will then have to connect up each and every line manually. This is painstaking work which may take some time, as each line must be reconnected individually."
Ms Steven added that three sections of cable were taken by criminals, with each measuring 350 metres.
Earlier this month, the Gloucestershire Echo reported that a Gotherington resident was also left without her landline.
Eighty-nine year-old Audrey Lloyd could not use home phone services over the Christmas and New Year period as a result of damaged phone cables.
