Wireless communications provider RTX has confirmed that it will release a new landline phone that is Skype-enabled.
Entitled DUALphone 4088, the device does not need to be connected to a PC, as homeowners can instead link its base station to a broadband service to enable them to make VoIP or traditional landline calls.
It also boasts a colour TFT screen and high definition audio capabilities.
Jesper Mailind, chief executive of RTX, said: "Our new elegant DUALphone 4088 offers consumers a unique way to use Skype, bringing the benefits of wireless low cost or free calls to households across the globe at an affordable price-point."
Mr Mailind added that he believes there is a growing demand for dual phones from many Skype users.
The announcement of this latest handset comes after Skype unveiled its Freetalk Connect Me Home Phone Adapter, which enables people to make landline and Skype calls via one device.
