Jersey Telecom freezes landline prices
Tuesday, Jan 10, 2012 Filed Under :Home phone news
Jersey Telecom's (JT) landline rental charges will be frozen until the end of this year, following action by the Channel Islands Competition Regulatory Authority (CICRA) As well as this, CICRA has capped the fees of local, UK and international calls, before a detailed assessment of the expense of providing line rental services takes place later this year. John Curran, executive director of CICRA, said: "Since the current price control was put in place in 2008, JT had implemented significant cost-cutting and the regulator wanted to assess whether these savings had been fed through to the prices consumers pay." Mr Curran highlighted that it was the "fairest course of action" to freeze the charges. Earlier this month, the Post Office introduced its new home phone and broadband package, offering free line rental, up to 8Mbps broadband and 5Gb monthly downloads for £21.40 a month. People can also opt for unlimited downloads by paying £4.65 extra.
