Hampshire Police announces new 101 number
Thursday, Jan 19, 2012 Filed Under :Home phone news
Hampshire Police has urged residents in its county to begin using their home phones to call 101 for non-urgent police calls, rather than dialling the force's old number. The authority previously used 0845 045 4545 alongside the 101 number, though the latter has now been rolled out nationwide. It is used to report crimes that do not necessitate an immediate response, and can be used for general police-related enquiries. Chief superintendent Matthew Greening told the Romsey Advertiser: "We currently receive more than 22,000 calls a month to 101, showing that we are providing a valuable and sought-after service to our communities." Mr Greening emphasised that ease of access is vital for the police to improve its relations with local communities. This month, Jersey Telecom announced that its landline rental charges will be frozen until the end of the year, after action by the Channel Islands Competition Regulatory Authority (CICRA) CICRA has capped the fees of local, international and UK calls.
