Bundling home phone services 'getting increasingly popular'

Interest in home phone, broadband and television bundles offered by telecoms providers have seen a significant boost in popularity over the last few years, according to a new report.
Take-up rates have been assisted by consumers seeking to reduce their household bills in light of the recession, according to Mintel senior leisure analyst and author of the report, Matt King.
A desire to find the best deal has been the primary driver for the uptake of home phone bundles, with half of consumers claiming to have opted for the cheapest deal available to them.
The convenience of paying all three bills in one package was also picked out by four in ten customers as being a draw to the deals.
Mr King notes: "This combination of drivers has moved communications alongside power utilities as 'chore purchases' to be made as cheaply and as hassle-free as possible.
He added that technological advancements are likely to shift future consumer perceptions of home phone and broadband delivery "away from being a boring-but-necessary, price-led utility purchase to being an aspirational home entertainment or leisure buy".
Home phone providers are already having to compete with internet-based telephony services, offered by the likes of Skype and Google.
Last week, search giant Google extended its free services to include a new net telephony service that can be used within Gmail.
