Warwickshire collects superfast broadband funding
Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012 Filed Under :Broadband News
Funding for the improvement of broadband packages in Warwickshire has been approved by the local council. In total, £3 million will be added to the money needed to equal Broadband Delivery UK's £4.07 million allocation, while an extra £500,000 of county council funding was consented to help with running the project. Councillor Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s portfolio holder for sustainable communities, said: "Superfast broadband is an absolutely essential technology for our rural communities and they desperately need a service that is fit for the future." Mr Cockburn explained that the authority's local broadband plan has been forwarded, with the project's procurement phase expected to start by July 2012, ahead of a scheduled roll out of the infrastructure in 2013. Bristol is another area that is aiming to implement improved broadband services, after it applied to be a super-connected city. If it is awarded the status, the city will be given a share of the government's £100 million broadband funding
