Broadband users in the UK no doubt receive a high number of junk emails as the country ranked quite high on the list of notorious email senders.
According to latest statistics put together by Symantec Hosted Services, in August 4.5 per cent of the world's spam messages were generated from the UK. This figure had more than doubled than that recorded in April this year.
It has seen Britain being ranked number four in the ratings of the world's spam email sources.
The top junk email senders are the US, India and Brazil. However, the amount of spam generated by Germany, France and Italy has also increased significantly.
Paul Wood, MessageLabs Intelligence senior analyst at Symantec Hosted Services, said: "We have seen impressive activity from the usual botnet suspects and in many cases there are likely to be newer incarnations of existing botnets that have been updated and there are also likely to be some brand new botnets that are now beginning to emerge."
