UK fares 'very well' in internet access
Thursday, Aug 26, 2010 Filed Under :Broadband News
Internet access in the UK compares reasonably to those offered by other developed nations, claimed an expert.
Although superfast broadband is an ambitious goal set by the government, the country fares quite well in terms of providing internet access, according to Race Online 2012.
Graham Walker, head of policy at the digital inclusion campaign, pointed out that in terms of online access Britain was ahead of the US and only slightly behind Sweden.
He also described broadband bundle users in the UK as some of the most sophisticated internet surfers in the world, with many carrying out several online transactions on a regular basis.
Last month, Martha Lane Fox, the British digital champion, announced the target of getting everyone of working age to access and use the internet by the end of the current parliament.
However, culture secretary Jeremy Hunt had previously pushed back the date of rolling out superfast broadband due to the lack of adequate funds.
