Talk Talk compromises customer privacy
Friday, Jul 30, 2010 Filed Under :Broadband News
UK internet service provider (ISP) Talk Talk is at the centre of a heated discussion regarding the privacy of consumers.
Concerns were raised when subscribers noticed that their web usage was being monitored by the provider.
Talk Talk has defended its activities on the basis that it is trialling a new security system. The provider has confirmed that it is recording the urls of websites visited by users in order to check whether they pose any security risks.
Websites that are found to contain malware will be automatically added to the provider's black-list and access to these will be restricted to minimise security risks.
An official statement on the ISP's website said: "To provide some context, we're doing this trial in advance of offering a free opt-in product that will warn customers if their computer or device connected to their home broadband is viewing a page that contains viruses or threats."
