Broadband packages in Scotland could become five times faster in 2015, thanks to a new plan announced by the infrastructure secretary Alex Neil.
Mr Neil stated that the Infrastructure Action Plan aims to combat the country's digital divide and achieve world-class digital access in all of Scotland by 2020.
Commenting on the news, Consumer Focus Scotland digital expert Annie McGovern said: "Consumers in Scotland want fast and reliable broadband services and to be able to keep pace with all the new fantastic technology developments the 21st century will offer."
Ms McGovern also emphasised that it is critical for the right infrastructure to be place for the investment.
Socitim recently commented on the upgrade of broadband infrastructure across the UK, advising that IT chiefs should play a key role in improving speeds.
The group believes that the specialists are best equipped to assist with the roll-out of the technology, although more money should be made available by Broadband Delivery UK to help with upgrade plans.
