Broadband holding back small businesses, research shows
Wednesday, Feb 22, 2012 Filed Under :Broadband News
A number of small businesses believe that their growth ambitions are being hampered by a lack of broadband connectivity, a study has found. The services were deemed a barrier to expansion by 16 per cent of companies that took part in a recent survey by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). As a result, the FSB has urged the government to outline clear plans to boost superfast broadband deployment throughout Britain, calling for details to be released regarding how two-tier internet access in urban and rural areas will be prevented. John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, said: "The government must take some big leaps and introduce bold measures to drive growth." However, the latest research from consumer watchdog Ofcom found that Britons are now enjoying faster broadband speeds. It revealed that the average UK residential broadband speed was 7.6Mbps in November 2011, marking an increase from November/December 2010's 6.2Mbps figure.
